our story

we are a diy boutique and working/teaching studio, specializing in kitting you out for home projects, especially painted furniture, walls, floors and cabinets, along with stenciling, gilding and other embellishments. we offer a selection of exclusive diy supplies, vintage furniture and fixtures, and locally-made goods. we hold weekly workshops in paint and finish techniques, and accept custom work if you don’t have time to do things yourself. our goal is to help you elevate your domestic space while exercising your creativity, with an emphasis on environmental kindness.

 Stephanie Jones is a painted finish artisan who has trained extensively with the best in the business, and has worked with top designers in the region on custom projects over the past 25 years transforming clients’ walls, ceilings, floors, cabinets, furniture and fixtures. Her work has been featured in print and online media locally, nationally, and in Europe and the UK. Her painted furniture enjoys pride of place in homes everywhere from Los Angeles to Nantucket. She is the author of Upstyle Your Furniture.

Originally from Chicago, she moved to Memphis in 1989, and began creating painted finishes soon after. She and her husband have three grown children, a precocious long-haired black dachshund, and a very clever german short-haired pointer.

custom work

custom work inquiries are welcomed for projects that can be brought to us at the studio. (we regret that we are not accepting on-site commissions at this time.)

a telephone or e-mail consultation is the first step to assess the project. clients may choose a finish from a library of samples, specifying their own palette and details (custom samples can be produced for a small fee, which is then applied to the final project cost).

projects using custom materials may require a deposit. for larger or more time-sensitive projects, a scheduling deposit is necessary to hold a particular time on the calendar. consultations for paint colors and developing concepts are available during regular shop hours.
